Friendly Educators is a homeschool enrichment program for the whole family that began in the 2012-2013 school year. Offering yearlong classes for preschoolers to high-schoolers, we meet on Tuesdays from 8:30 am. to 3 p.m. We have put together a fabulous slate of classes taught by moms and dads with special expertise in their topics.
When do we start?
Class begins on Aug. 18 and ends on Nov. 17 for 26-week courses and Dec. 8 for 30-week courses (schedules are noted with each course description). Fall break is Nov. 3, and there will be no class on Nov. 24 for Thanksgiving. For the spring semester, class starts on Jan. 12, 2016. We will take a spring break on March 8 and conclude the year on April 12 for 26-week courses and April 26 for 30-week courses. If we need a make-up day for bad weather, classes will end one week later (April 19 for 26-week classes and May 3 for 30-week classes). Generally our classes last for the entire year, but there are three this time that meet only one semester.
What’s in a name?
We’re calling ourselves “Friendly” not only because of our location (Friendly Ave. Church of Christ, 5101 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro), but also because of our desire to be a place where kids and their parents can form deep, lasting relationships. We’re calling ourselves “Educators” not only because of our desire to provide passionate, experienced help for your homeschool, but also because we acknowledge that we are coming alongside the most important educators: parents and kids!
Who’s in charge?
Friendly Educators was dreamed up by a group of homeschool moms who felt called by God to offer their time and talents to help Greensboro area families succeed in educating their children. The program is administered by a board consisting of:
- Ellen Dockham, director
- Tonya Duvall, treasurer/registrar
- Valerie Chaffin, Cathy Roberts, Amanda Wares, Jennie Weekley
