What’s in store for my Tuesday?

Kids can choose from multiple core academic and elective classes to fill up from 1-4 class hours. Parents will stay on campus, observing their children’s classes, volunteering when scheduled, or just hanging out with friends on the comfy couches in the lovely coffee bar area. Parents can elect to participate in a prayer hour as well. We want this to be your favorite day of the week – a place where you can find resources to help your kids and friends to fill your heart! Classes will be held at 10 a.m. (9:30 for high school biology and chemistry), 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. At noon, the entire campus will meet together for lunch and worship.

What will I do with my preschooler?

You may sign up preschool-age siblings of students enrolled in Friendly Educators for two “academic” hours listed in our course descriptions. For the other two hours of class, parents of preschoolers will take turns providing child care in the preschool room and playground. There will also be a nursery where moms can nurse their babies or put them down for a nap.

What’s my commitment?

Parents must commit to remain on campus with their preK-8 children (this is not a drop-off program). Parents who only have high school students participating are encouraged but not required to stay. Regardless of the age of your children, you will be assigned to a rotating parent work duty team (morning set-up, lunch clean-up, afternoon clean-up or preschool play time). The number of times you will be required to work will depend on the number of families enrolled. You will also need to work with your children on assignments during the week (one hour per week is NOT enough time to cover any subject). You are still the teacher – our goal is to enrich what you are teaching at home – but we do ask that you make every effort to attend class and to keep up with any work assigned. In addition, we ask that you commit to participating in the classes for the entire year.

What’s the cost?

Each family is required to pay a one-time, non-refundable fee of $35 per child ($80 family maximum) upon registering for classes. Registration will continue by appointment only after May 1 until classes are full. Tuition and supply fees vary depending on the classes chosen (see course descriptions for exact amounts). Fees range from $50 per year for preschoolers to $250 per year for upper-level high school courses requiring much time and expertise on the part of the instructor.

***Payment must be made in full for the year at registration. There will be no refunds given, so please choose your courses carefully.

*** You will be asked to pay Friendly Educators for the registration fee and to pay each individual teacher for each class your child is taking. If you are unable to pay the entire amount at once, you may provide post-dated checks in the amount due for each semester. (One-half payment dated Aug. 19, 2014 and one-half payment dated Jan. 6, 2015.) Our registrar will keep these checks and distribute them to the teachers on the appropriate date. We know this will require you to write a lot of checks, but we think this system will work out to be the most efficient for parents and teachers alike.

A study hall will be provided for $10 a semester for students who have a free class period. All students with a free hour must be in the study hall or be supervised by a parent. Because the room backs up to the church staff offices, there must be absolute quiet. If your child is unable to work/read quietly for 55 minutes, please plan to supervise him or her yourself in another area. Students must be registered for one class hour per each hour spent in the study hall.
