Course Description: This physical science course is designed to prepare students as they transition into high school biology. Students will learn about atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, reactions, motion, forces, energy, waves, sound, light, electricity, magnetism, Earth’s structure, weather, and atmosphere. Hands-on demonstrations and experiments will bring these foundational concepts to life. Through notebook activities and experiments, students will learn to become more independent in their study of science. They will develop effective note-taking skills, learn how to correctly write a lab report and scientific paper.Course Prerequisites: None

Homework Requirements: Students will be expected to spend 3-4 hours per week on coursework outside of class. Homework will consist of readings from Exploring Creation with Physical Science, Student Workbook activities (including lab reports and papers), and simple experiments/demonstrations.Duration: 28 weeks
Grading: A recommended letter grade will be provided by tutor upon completion of the course.

Teacher Bio: Jessica is a Wake Forest University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, former public school teacher, former private school reading specialist, and private piano teacher. Jessica has loved science for as long as she remembers, and her appreciation for the wonders of the natural world has continued to grow since beginning her family’s home education journey. As a high school student, Jessica was chosen to attend The Governor’s School of North Carolina at St. Andrew’s College with a focus on science. She is also passionate about books, travel, the arts, and natural healthcare. Jessica has been homeschooling her six children for 10 years and graduated her oldest child, now a sophomore in college pursuing a degree in vocal performance, in spring 2022.
