Course Description: This class is heavily lab oriented, with lecture and discussion of text concepts,  as time allows.  Tests will be administered at home.  Students will submit written lab reports weekly.  Expectations for each module will be clearly outlined in the syllabus, which will be sent to parents/students prior to the first week of class. 
(From Apologia online textbook description) This college-prep biology course is designed to be the student's first high school science course, and provides students with a thorough understanding of the relevance of scientific inquiry. Textbook readings are backed by hands-on experiments that take students' book knowledge and bring it into real-world applications. After completing this course, students will be able to understand the vocabulary of biology and gain a strong understanding of the scientific method that will equip them to analyze data across other disciplines. 
Modules cover atoms, chemical structures, ecosystems, biomes, ecological communities, cell structure and function, cellular energy, DNA, proteins, cell cycles, genetics, prokaryotes, viruses, protists, fungi, and the fascinating worlds of plants and animals.

Homework Requirements: Students will complete a minimum of two hours of out of class work per week.  This includes reading, note taking, on your own questions, study guide completion, and take home tests.  Lab reports will be completed at home for experiments that are completed in class.
Duration: 28 weeks
Grading: Midterm and final class grades will be provided based on test scores, lab participation and report submission, and completion of assigned work.
Course Credit: 1 full science credit
Teacher Bio: Meaghan is a Registered Nurse who has an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Central Texas College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Columbus State University. She worked as an Emergency and Trauma Nurse from 2009-2016 in Texas, Kentucky, and Georgia, while her husband served on active duty for the Army. She now homeschools her two daughters and moonlights as a camp nurse during the summer. Meaghan is a group leader with youth ministry at her church.
