Biology with Lab - (From online description) A college-prep high school biology course, it will set the stage for success in high school homeschool years, prepare students for college level courses, and give them an understanding of the basic biological world that surrounds them each day of their lives so that they can appreciate the real-world relevance of scientific inquiry. Providing a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology this biology course covers:
• A heavy emphasis on the vocabulary of biology so that students are properly prepared to have scientific discussions
• A strong background in the scientific method so that students are trained for laboratory sciences in other high school science courses, as well as university studies
• Labs that cover experimentation, field studies, microscopy, and dissection
• Introduction to classification, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, ecosystems, and much more
The biology course is exclusively a lab that is thorough and correlates with the concepts taught in the text. Each week the student works on text reading assignments, active note taking and problem solving, and takes scheduled tests at home. The student also compiles data for the research notebook and completes formal written laboratory reports on selected experiments. In class, laboratory work will be accomplished using microscopic, diagnostic, and dissection techniques. The student records or sketches observations in the lab journal. The parent’s job is to ensure that the student completes and understands the assignment and also administer and score all tests at home.
This course will be taught by Keri Griffin who earned her AAS degree from Lake Michigan College and then went on to graduate from Michigan State University as an LVT (Licensed Veterinary Technician). Keri has been tutoring high school and college level students from homeschool and public-schools for over 10 years. She has taught a variety of subjects,
