Course: Intro to Writing for Grades 3-5 (2:00)
Instructor: Shelley Campbell
Curriculum: Developed by the instructor
Course Description: During our first semester together, students will learn the process involved in writing essays. We will break it down into manageable steps. Brainstorming! Outlining! Writing! Revising! Students will work on writing various types of essays (narrative, descriptive and persuasive). I know that essays can be especially intimidating for this age group and want our introduction to be gentle, inviting and non-formulaic.
During our second semester together, we will work on creative writing. Journals! Poetry! Short stories! Plays! Students will be introduced to literary devices (metaphors, personification, onomatopoeia, etc.).
While we will work on strategies to strengthen the overall quality of students’ writing, the focus of this class will be on process over product. My goal is for students to come to enjoy writing and develop increasing confidence in their abilities to express their own thoughts and ideas through writing!
This course is taught by Shelley Campbell. She has a degree in education (Language Arts and Social Studies) and has been homeschooling her four kids (ages 12, 10, 8, and 5) for 9 wonderful years! (26 Weeks)
