Course Description: Using Time Travelers series, this class is designed to create a hands-on learning experience that drives the lessons home in a fun way! The first semester will focus on American colonial life covering: America's colonies begin, the colonial home, clothing, food, family life, school, faith, villages & cities, health & medicine, artisans, crime & punishment, plantations & slavery, pleasures & pastimes, and holidays! Our Spring semester will focus on a detailed look at the American Revolution covering the politics and conflicts that launched a new nation, such as: colonial beginnings, the French & Indian War, problems leading up to the Revolution, Continental Congress, General Washington, women of the war, several specific battles, many important figures who stood for the cause of liberty, and much more! This will be accomplished using a kinesthetic approach using notebooking activities, 3-dimensional crafts and games, layered books, lap-books and other hands-on activities. Students will compile a 3-ring binder of readings and other materials through the year. This class is taught by Dawn Casas, a college professor and course developer. She has a Master’s in Education and a Ph.D. in Communication. A former public and private school teacher, she has homeschooled her own daughters for 10 years. She loves thinking about what life was like in the past and colonial America is one of her favorite times throughout history! (26 weeks)
