Medical Terminology for Grades 9-12 (9:00)

Course:  Medical Terminology (This class meets on Thursdays at 9am at Greensboro Seventh Day Adventist)

Course Description:

This course will assist students to understand medical terminology within the context of human body systems. Medical terminology has many Greek and Latin word parts; therefore, this course will allow students to learn how to interpret unfamiliar language. Material specific, and possible dissections, to deepen the understanding of Human Anatomy and Physiology will be offered to those who decide to register for the Honors Extra class. So, on the students’ transcripts they could have an elective credit for Medical Terminology AND with the Honors Extra, they could have a credit in Human Anatomy and Physiology. This class will be taught by Debbie Black, who received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Teaching Certificate with a Science Concentration from UNC-Greensboro. Since then, she has worked as a nurse, a Guilford County school teacher, a homeschool mom, and a tutor for a local homeschool group. (30 Weeks)

Course Description:

This course in conjunction with the Medical Terminology course will introduce the students to a basic understanding of human’s eleven body systems. We will look intricately at the human body and how it works as God’s design. The format of the text and course will begin in understanding how we were “fearfully and wonderfully made” into life at the cellular level before jumping into the body systems. . This class will be taught by Debbie Black, who received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Teaching Certificate with a Science Concentration from UNC-Greensboro. **All Honors Extra classes meet from 10am-Noon on Thursdays at Greensboro Seventh-Day Adventist Church (1320 Fleming Rd). Students will also receive weekly instruction on a rotating schedule of topics including: study skills, research, public speaking, and debate. The honors option will incur an additional tuition charge of $150 per course.
