Course Desciption: We will be using the newest edition of Apologia General Science. Here is the description from the Apologia web site:
“…Exploring Creation with General Science, 3rd Edition, has been rewritten to truly walk each student through middle school’s transition time from the elementary years to the high school sciences. Specifically designed to be the first course taken during junior high, it was created to give middle school students an understanding of the basic world that surrounds them each day of their lives so that they can appreciate the real-world relevance of scientific inquiry and the beauty of creation.”
The course is designed to be done 4 days a week. A significant amount of work at home will be required to make the most of this curriculum. Time in class will focus on making sure the concepts being studied at home are understood and explored. We will focus on discussions of the “On your own” and “Explore More” and cover as may experiments as is feasible during class. Testing will be done in class.
I find the Student notebook to be extremely helpful, and strongly recommend that you add this to work on at home. If this notebook is not used your student will require a dedicated, organized notebook for this subject.
This class will be taught by Kirsty Hammond, a homeschooling Mom of 12 years. She received a dual Honors degree in Speech Therapy and Audiology, and a Master’s degree focusing on Second Language Acquisition in South Africa. (26 weeks)
Note: 6th graders may be considered on a case by case basis.
